I was like just cut the line and let it go. Until now I thought Ling Cod were the most prehistoric, ugliest looking fish ever! But take a look at what we caught! We both said the best way to describe this thing was with two words: EVIL looking!!Īnd YES we did release it! We tried to get the hook out of his mouth without injuring it to release him in the water…but was unable to do that, so we had to bring “the creature” in the boat to unhook IT! I was afraid it would electrocute Ray…I mean it looks like an eel!! Ray didn’t know what it was! I jumped into the cabin of the boat it scared me so much and let Ray worry about getting the hook out of it’s mouth.

I will never forget dragging this thing, this creature up from the sea. Now for the un-nerving part! If you have the stomach……look at what we drug up from the bottom, something that was really scary looking! What an interesting exciting day we had. We fished a few hours in the Seldovia area of Kachemak Bay for salmon and didn’t get a bite so decided we would go find some halibut. Because of their hardy nature we have gotten many Green Wolf Eels traded in over the years and many of these fish have been well over 5 years old.Life in Alaska can be very un-nerving! I had thought I had seen everything pretty much from the ocean! Ray and I went out to try and find some salmon but instead we found something called a Wolf Fish vs Wolf Eel.

As a rule keep the Wolf Eel with semi-aggressive to aggressive fish, one Green Wolf Eel to an aquarium. Their colors range from a bright green to a mottled light brown and they do well in aquariums with tangs, angels, lion fish, large clown fish and much more. Their streamlined bodies make them great jumpers so make certain the top on your aquarium is fully covered. Make sure your Green Wolf Eel has good hiding places to feel secure. To keep aggression down and the aquarium clean try to feed frozen or prepared foods instead of live. They generally are quick to learn to eat in captivity but if you have a finicky eater feed it glass shrimp, small feeder guppies, tuffies or goldfish depending on the size of the food. They need a meaty diet consisting of foods like krill, shrimp, squid and other frozen and live fish. Green Wolf Eels grow to a maximum length of almost 18″ so it requires an aquarium of at least 55 gallons. I have never had one miss the food and bite me but it is probably wise to use feeding tongs, it’s just not as cool.

Even though Green Wolf Eels are wild-caught in a very short time they will eat out of your hand. When a customer asks about this fish I generally grab a tuffy (rosie red minnow) or a small feeder goldfish and hand feed it. One of the neat features about this fish is its great eyesight. Green wolf eels (Congrogadus subducens) are really a pseudochromid (Dottyback.) These hardy fish are frequently for sale at most fish stores. Green Wolf Eels or Carpet Eel Blennies are fish that look like, are named like, and are commonly mistaken for eels.
